Camilla and Marc Pre-Collection 2013

There is always something magical about a collection that can be designed and put together with perfect styling to make even drastically different pieces look as though they belong together and are incorporated within a unifying theme. When everything comes together rather seamlessly, it shows the designer and their team have truly mastered the art of design and styling. This year’s pre collection for Camilla and Marc did exactly that.

Taking inspiration from the lavish interiors of Versailles, this translated quite elegantly to a brilliantly bright collection. With interiors and architecture being a noted point of reference for the brand it was apparent in both the silhouettes created and the detailing used in the collection.

Versailles known for its richness, opulence, and lavishly decorated rooms filled with arrays of prints and textures created the basis point for the luxurious fabrics and rich colors used. In an attempt to make the line more contemporary, Camilla and Marc used striped jacquard in neat and tidy tailored silhouettes and used black-coated snakeskin on structured dresses to put a modern twist on the play between color and texture, much like in the rooms found in Versailles.

My favorite, and what also happened to be the highlight print was one that I couldn’t look away from. Comprised of spectacular and elaborate jewel clusters on an ivory base, they jewels were scattered across many of the dresses and pants.  With utility in mind, these pieces are made to layer with additional jeweled accessories, which creates a very appealing, visually stimulating look.

Although Camilla and Marc looked to the past for their inspiration it is quite clear that this stunning collection was one of the present with an extravagance distilled into a revelation of femininity.
