Adrian Wu SS13

When asked why he did his collection the way he did, Adrian said, “Because I can.” At first I thought this almost a tad arrogant, but as I took a moment to take it in, I started to like it. Then I started to think some more, about what he said, as well as his collection. I came to the realization that Adrian Wu has been able to do what many brands can not. He can create what he wants, create the trends that he wants, and he can put whatever he wants onto the runway. He creates when he is inspired, and creates entire collections around what he wants to create it around. This collection for example was inspired by the dystopian video game Bio Shock and the subtle romance between the two main characters. Why does it matter though that someone can create whatever they like, and put out a collection that they want to? Because that is fashion. That is what the runway is for. It is meant for innovation, it is meant for creativity, and it is meant for the uninhibited portrayal of creativity however that may be. For Adrian this season, is was through the portrayal of dresses and garments without using any soft textiles whatsoever. It was all polyurethane which was sprayed, moulded and painted all to create the appearance of deformity while still maintaing a sense of romance and elegance. By far the most innovative and most creativity collection put out this year, Adrian has outdone himself with this collection.
