How to Wear Plaid This Fall

Ah, the power of plaid. It can be casual and laid back, or elegant and girly. It can be bold and bright or used more subtly in a darker tone or as an accessory.  Whatever the event, plaid is versatile enough to make a statement this fall. Here are some ideas on how (and where) to wear this timeless pattern:

Brunch. For brunch I like to look a little more dressed up than usual, but still comfortable enough to go shopping or meet up with girlfriends afterward. Pair a plaid blouse with a warm sweater overtop. The collar and sleeves should be peaking out from underneath the sweater. A pair of dark wash jeans would be a great compliment to this casual yet put-together look.

Out on the town. When going out at night, nothings better than a little black dress and some killer accessories. For fall, try adding some plaid shoes to your night time ensemble. These Louboutin heels would work well in the bar or club.

School. School is always about comfort while looking great. Whether in highschool or college, plaid is a perfect staple for the classroom. Pair a plaid button-up with a cable knit scarf for an effortless look this fall season – while still keeping warm!

Work. Who says office wear can’t be fun? Embrace plaid subtly at work, however. Business casual dress codes call for a toned down colour scheme. A darker plaid would be perfect in a pencil skirt or blazer jacket.

Any occasion. I’d like to (boldly) say that plaid can be worn on any occasion this fall – if done minimally. Plaid accessories can warm up an outfit without standing out too much. Why not wear a plaid scarf to work? I also love the idea of a plaid handbag with a neutral black or brown coat. Check out the plaid hair bow below. The possibilities are endless!
